As a key member of the engineering leadership team, the Principal Engineer - Processing will offer advanced technical guidance and strategic direction to create optimal solutions for capital initiatives, organization-wide specifications, and design standards. This role involves collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to assess product and processing requirements, ensuring the development of effective technical and business solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert technical insights that align with our organizational goals while adhering to established standards and procedures.
  • Establish comprehensive organizational standards, design protocols, and templates for processing equipment and applications.
  • Create detailed Operational Factors that articulate the functionality of specific end-to-end processes.
  • Develop thorough Front-End-Loading (FEL) packages that are precise and demonstrate due diligence to secure project success. These packages encompass:
    • Technology evaluations and proposed solutions reflecting industry best practices.
    • Layouts of physical locations, general arrangements, and equipment placements.
    • Infrastructure requirements and assessments.
    • Preliminary Capital and Expense Estimates.
  • Collaborate with the Engineering Project Manager to establish a timeline that meets project deadlines.
  • Define performance criteria for equipment and systems.
  • Identify project alternatives, prerequisites, risks, and opportunities.
  • Draft detailed functional control descriptions for unit operations and processing systems as recommended by the engineer.
  • Conduct reviews (personal and peer) of FEL packages or equivalent for accuracy, completeness, and operational efficiency.
  • Evaluate Technical Briefs to provide technical support to project teams.
  • Prepare Business Case Screening Estimates to offer a directional perspective on project viability and business case robustness.
  • Stay updated on the latest advancements in food processing technology and commercial applications.
  • Maintain knowledge of current industry regulations and codes related to processing equipment design and operation.
  • Supply technical and economic feasibility data to other Conagra teams focused on enhancements or competitive advantages.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Food Engineering, or Agricultural Engineering.
  • A minimum of 12 years of experience in the food, pet food, nutraceutical, and beverage sectors, with expertise in process design, engineering, and commercialization.
  • Experience in plant operations is advantageous.
  • Proven track record in project engineering and execution.
  • Ability to convey technical requirements to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Familiarity with continuous improvement methodologies in engineering design.
  • Experience working collaboratively within a matrix organization.
  • Proficient in translating project requirements into technical solutions through sound engineering principles.
  • A curious mindset with a desire to understand systems and innovate solutions collaboratively.
  • Willingness to travel approximately 50% - 65% within North America.
Compensation:
Annual Base Salary: $128,000 - $152,000.

Compensation will be determined based on factors such as location, relevant experience, and skill set, while ensuring internal equity among Conagra employees.
