Key Responsibilities

As the Substation Engineering Manager, your responsibilities will include:

  • Fostering a collaborative relationship with the Project Manager, where the PM oversees scope, schedule, budget, and client relations, while the Engineering Manager ensures technical project execution.
  • Creating and executing a project plan focused on the technical aspects of assignments.
  • Delegating project tasks and offering technical support to team members.
  • Assisting in managing the technical elements of scope, schedule, and budget, which includes proposal creation, work breakdown structure development, progress evaluation, risk management, change management, and schedule oversight.
  • Conducting quality assurance checks and reviews for all project outputs in accordance with HDR's Quality Management Systems (QMS) to deliver exceptional quality to clients. Performing quality evaluations of projects from other teams as necessary.
  • Working autonomously while mentoring or training Project Engineers, EITs, or CADD/Designers.
  • Managing multiple projects simultaneously, utilizing teams across various locations.
  • Participating in project reviews as required.
  • Having prior experience in a consulting firm is advantageous.
  • Collaborating with senior engineers and technical leaders to cultivate specific technical expertise and attending training sessions and seminars to deepen understanding of complex concepts relevant to the discipline.
  • Contributing to the development of technical papers and presentations that highlight HDR's capabilities at industry conferences or similar events.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Experience in project execution within the Power Market Sector.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and standard design software used in the Power Market Sector (e.g., PLS CAD, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, AutoPipe, and Revit).
  • A commitment to actively participating in our employee-owned culture.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • A minimum of 8 years of technical design experience with high voltage electrical switchyard and substation projects, including a fundamental understanding of physical, electrical, civil, and structural design components, as well as knowledge of IEEE, ANSI, and other relevant design and equipment standards.
  • A proven track record of effective collaboration with diverse teams, regional departments, technical managers, and project personnel.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent conceptual, organizational, problem-solving, and teamwork abilities; capable of working independently and collaboratively.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.
