Key Responsibilities

As the Substation Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for:

  • Establishing a collaborative relationship with the Project Manager, where the PM oversees scope, schedule, budget, and client relations, while the Engineering Manager focuses on the technical execution of projects.
  • Creating and executing a project plan that addresses the technical aspects of assignments.
  • Delegating project tasks and offering technical direction to team members.
  • Ensuring the technical integrity of scope, schedule, and budget, which includes proposal development, work breakdown structure formulation, progress evaluation, risk management, change management, and schedule oversight.
  • Conducting quality assurance checks and reviews for all project outputs in accordance with HDR's Quality Management Systems (QMS) to ensure top-tier quality for clients. Additionally, performing quality assessments of projects from other teams as necessary.
  • Working autonomously while potentially mentoring or training Project Engineers, EITs, or CADD/Designers.
  • Managing multiple projects simultaneously, utilizing teams across various locations.
  • Participating in project evaluations as required.
  • Having prior experience in a consulting firm is advantageous.
  • Collaborating with senior engineers and technical leaders to cultivate specific technical expertise and attending training sessions focused on enhancing understanding of complex concepts related to your field.
  • Contributing to the development of technical papers and presentations that highlight HDR's capabilities at industry conferences or similar events.
Qualifications

Essential Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Experience in project execution within the Power Market Sector.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and standard Power Market Sector design software (e.g., PLS CAD, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, AutoPipe, and Revit).
  • A commitment to actively participating in our employee-owned culture.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • A minimum of 8 years of technical design experience with high voltage electrical switchyard and substation projects, including a foundational understanding of physical, electrical, civil, and structural design components, as well as knowledge of IEEE, ANSI, and other relevant design and equipment standards.
  • A proven track record of effective collaboration with diverse teams, regional departments, technical managers, and project personnel.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent conceptual, organizational, problem-solving, and teamwork abilities; capable of working independently and collaboratively.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.
