Job Summary

The Defense & Material Solutions division at Battelle is in search of a Systems Engineer with a strong background in the Joint Mission Environment Testing Capability (JMETC). This role is contingent upon program award.

As a Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for developing comprehensive technical architecture documentation and conducting systems engineering research, analysis, investigations, reviews, and evaluations of current testing and experimentation architecture strategies. You will play a crucial role in formulating strategic plans and recommendations aimed at enhancing the utilization of JMETC environments across the Department of Defense's Research, Development, Test, and Evaluation (RDT&E) sectors. Collaborating closely with scientists, physicists, electrical and mechanical engineers, network and computer engineers, and cybersecurity professionals, you will design innovative solutions that support the DoD's Test Resource Management Center and the distributed testing and evaluation capabilities of JMETC.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and maintain requirements, architectures, and system designs for intricate distributed testing and evaluation systems, including Live-Virtual-Constructive simulation events.
  • Adapt existing system designs to accommodate new use cases and specifications.
  • Utilize emerging technologies to integrate legacy DoD testing and evaluation capabilities into the distributed interactive simulation and LVC environment.
  • Conduct complex assignments by compiling and analyzing design and testing data, preparing technical specifications, and determining appropriate limits and variables for requirements and systems performance analysis.
  • Evaluate legacy DoD testing and evaluation capabilities and devise plans to enhance interoperability and readiness.
  • Support the development of model-based systems engineering (MBSE) artifacts across a range of products and applications.
  • Prepare technical reports and deliver presentations to clients, both formal and informal.
  • Lead small technical projects or tasks within larger technical projects.
  • Provide technical guidance and coordinate the efforts of engineers and technical support staff in executing assigned projects within established time and budget constraints.
  • Foster relationships with internal and external clients and communicate project schedules and deliverable quality.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field with over 10 years of experience; or a master's degree with 7 years of experience.
  • 5 years of experience with the Joint Mission Environment Testing Capability and the Test & Training Enabling Architecture.
  • Strong foundation in model-based systems engineering.
  • Experience with SysML diagramming tools (e.g., Cameo System Modeler, IBM Rhapsody).
  • Proven experience leading technical system design discussions with stakeholders.
  • Ability to create and maintain requirements baselines throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Experience in developing system of systems functional decomposition documents and interface control documents (ICDs).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Active Secret or Top-Secret Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with the DoD Architecture Framework (DoDAF).
  • Experience with DoD programs.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB, Python, C++, or other object-oriented programming languages.
  • Experience with Embedded Systems.
  • Active Secret or Top-Secret Clearance.
