Position Summary

The Defense & Material Solutions division at Battelle is in search of a Systems Engineer with expertise in the Joint Mission Environment Testing Capability (JMETC). This role is dependent on program award.

As a Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for creating technical architecture artifacts and conducting comprehensive systems engineering research, analysis, and assessments of current testing and experimentation architecture plans. Your role will involve collaborating with a team of scientists, engineers, and cybersecurity professionals to identify customer requirements and devise innovative solutions that support the Department of Defense's Test Resource Management Center and the JMETC's distributed testing and evaluation capabilities.

You will evaluate system performance criteria and develop requirements to address testing and evaluation deficiencies, managing the design, development, and testing of integrated systems solutions. You will apply systems engineering methodologies tailored to meet project goals while adhering to constraints, ensuring a balance between systems thinking and best practices across various technology maturity levels.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain requirements, architectures, and system designs for intricate distributed testing and evaluation systems, including Live-Virtual-Constructive simulation events.
  • Adapt existing system designs to accommodate new use cases and requirements.
  • Utilize emerging technologies to enhance legacy DOD testing and evaluation capabilities within the distributed interactive simulation and LVC environment.
  • Conduct complex assignments by analyzing design and test data, preparing technical specifications, and evaluating technical data to establish appropriate limits and variables for requirements and systems performance analysis.
  • Review legacy DOD testing and evaluation capabilities and formulate plans to enhance interoperability and readiness.
  • Support the creation of model-based systems engineering (MBSE) artifacts across a range of products and applications.
  • Prepare technical documentation and deliver presentations to clients, both formal and informal.
  • Lead small technical projects or tasks associated with larger technical projects.
  • Provide technical guidance and coordinate the efforts of engineers and technical support staff to ensure project completion within time and budget constraints.
  • Foster relationships with internal and external clients, communicating effectively regarding project schedules and deliverable quality.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field with over 10 years of experience; or a master's degree with 7 years of experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with the Joint Mission Environment Testing Capability and the Test & Training Enabling Architecture.
  • Strong foundation in model-based systems engineering.
  • Proficiency in SysML diagramming tools (e.g., Cameo System Modeler, IBM Rhapsody).
  • Experience leading technical discussions on system design with stakeholders.
  • Expertise in establishing and maintaining requirements baselines throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Ability to create system of systems functional decomposition documents and interface control documents (ICDs).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Possession of an active Secret or Top-Secret Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with the DOD Architecture Framework (DoDAF).
  • Experience with Department of Defense programs.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as MATLAB, Python, C++, or other object-oriented languages.
  • Experience with Embedded Systems.
  • Possession of an active Secret or Top-Secret Clearance.
