Position Overview: Under the guidance of the Day Center Supervisor, the Activity Aide plays a crucial role in assisting the Activity Coordinator to deliver enriching and enjoyable recreational services to participants at CEI. This role includes maintaining supplies, documentation, and collaborating with staff to ensure the needs of participants are effectively met within the day center. The hourly compensation for the Activity Aide position at Center for Elders Independence is $13.50 per hour, influenced by market standards and individual experience, skills, and work history.Key Responsibilities:
  • Facilitates individual and group recreational activities, including arts, music, crafts, discussions, outings, and special events, to enhance participants' physical fitness, psychosocial well-being, and resilience.
  • Collaborates closely with the Activity and Volunteer Functional Manager and Activity Coordinator to design a meaningful program of activities tailored for individuals and groups.
  • Supports the daily operations of the Activity program as outlined by the Activity Coordinator.
  • Assists with documentation and provides coverage for the Activity Coordinator during interdisciplinary team meetings and other required gatherings.
  • Conducts necessary participant assessments as required, holding a Certificate of Activity Leadership approved by the California Department of Public Health.
  • Monitors and helps maintain supplies and equipment utilized in activity services and storage areas.
  • Ensures a tidy and organized environment in the activity service and storage areas.
  • Offers training and support to volunteers, guest speakers, outside entertainers, and instructors as needed.
  • Provides general support at the center, including greeting participants and assisting ambulatory and mobility-impaired individuals to and from transportation.
  • Observes and reports any changes in participants' mobility, psychosocial functioning, behavior, and alertness levels.
  • Assists with transferring participants from wheelchairs to seats and vice versa during activities.
  • Maintains a professional, courteous, and helpful demeanor while on duty, demonstrating responsiveness to all customer groups.
  • Adheres to all agency training requirements and maintains professional affiliations and necessary certifications.
  • Ensures a safe environment for participants and self, being vigilant about safety hazards and taking appropriate action.
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding all company procedures, results, and participant or family information.
  • Follows all CEI Policies and Procedures.
  • Complies with all agency training requirements.
  • Maintains a safe working environment by adhering to CEI's safety policies and procedures.
  • Exhibits a courteous, helpful, and professional attitude on the job, showing a willingness to be responsive to all customer groups.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned in a positive and supportive manner.
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to thrive in a diverse and interdisciplinary environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and effective communication abilities.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrates flexibility, initiative, and a willingness to learn.
  • Current CPR certification and First Aid training.
  • Basic computer proficiency.
  • Possesses or is willing to obtain an Activity Leadership Certificate approved by the California Department of Public Health – Preferred.
  • Ability to communicate in Spanish, Cantonese, or Mandarin – Preferred.
Additional Job Requirements:
  • Requires full range of body motion, including handling and lifting, finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
  • Requires standing or walking for 80% of the working day.
  • Involves limited pushing, bending, kneeling, and reaching at arm's length and overhead.
  • Capable of lifting and carrying up to 10 lbs. regularly.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
