Position Overview:


Planned Parenthood of Orange and San Bernardino Counties is seeking a full-time Nutritional Support Specialist.

This entry-level role is integral to the provision of WIC nutritional services, supporting various functions within the program.

Minimum Education:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.

Minimum Work Experience:

  • Previous experience with the WIC program is highly preferred.
  • At least 2 years of experience in customer service or as an administrative assistant.

  • Ability to meet deadlines and perform under pressure.
  • High-level computer skills are required, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Experience with electronic medical records may also be necessary.
  • This position involves travel to various sites; a valid driver's license and current auto insurance in compliance with state vehicle code are required if using a personal vehicle.

Key Responsibilities:

Essential Functions:

The essential functions encompass the required tasks, duties, and responsibilities performed as part of the job and the reason the job exists.

Provides Customer Service and Support Services for the WIC Nutritional Program:

  • Assists WIC Nutrition Assistants with clients by accurately recording height and weight measurements, dietary intakes, and other necessary medical and nutritional information.
  • Compares laboratory test results and dietary intakes to establish standards for nutrition risk screening.
  • Identifies clients with specific nutritional needs and refers them to the Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist for counseling and Nutritional Care Plan development.
  • Provides fundamental health, nutrition, and breastfeeding information to individual clients and groups.
  • Maintains and updates client documentation through the WIC WISE system.
  • Explains program eligibility requirements and clients' rights and responsibilities.
  • Provides triage at WIC sites by answering the central telephone line and offering customer service to WIC clients.
  • Informs clients about the benefits and services of the WIC program.
  • Instructs clients on prescribed food packages and WIC card benefits, evaluating their understanding of the process.
  • Conducts monthly group classes and other nutrition education activities as requested.
  • Participates in community outreach efforts as assigned.
  • Attends full staff and in-service training sessions.
  • Integrates referrals between WIC and Family Planning, documenting referrals to other social and community services.
