Position Overview

As a key member of the healthcare team at North York General Hospital, the Nutrition Specialist in Respiratory Medicine plays a vital role in delivering comprehensive nutritional care to patients and their families. This position is designed for individuals who are dedicated to providing safe, effective, and ethical dietary services in a dynamic healthcare environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough assessments of patients' emotional, physical, cognitive, and social needs, ensuring a holistic approach to care.
  • Develop and implement tailored nutritional care plans in collaboration with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of patient assessments and progress, ensuring effective communication with healthcare team members.
  • Advocate for patients and their families, ensuring their rights are upheld and appropriate services are provided.
  • Facilitate discharge planning by coordinating with patients, families, and healthcare teams, utilizing community resources as needed.
  • Participate actively in team meetings and inter-professional rounds, serving as a resource for staff.
  • Provide education on therapeutic diets to individuals and groups, enhancing patient understanding and compliance.
  • Support the training of nutrition students through clinical rotations, evaluating their competencies.
  • Stay informed about hospital and community resources to assist patients effectively.
  • Promote evidence-based practices and contribute to the development of quality assurance programs.
  • Engage in continuous professional development and participate in relevant educational activities.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a four-year degree in human nutrition and dietetics from an accredited university program.
  • Successful completion of an accredited dietetic internship or equivalent supervised training.
  • Current membership with the College of Dietitians of Ontario.
  • Minimum of one year of relevant clinical experience in an acute care setting.
  • Proficiency in electronic documentation and strong computer skills.
  • Knowledge of normal and therapeutic nutrition, including enteral nutrition and TPN.
  • Bilingualism in French and English is considered an asset.
