Job Title: Field Supervisor

Join the Youth Baseball Academy team as a Field Supervisor, responsible for overseeing the upkeep and maintenance of our playing fields and surrounding landscape areas. This role involves supervising part-time employees and interns, ensuring the field meets MLB, Nationals, and Director of Field Operations standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Recruit, train, and supervise seasonal part-time employees and internship candidates.
  • Manage expenses and provide financial tracking information for the assigned operating budget.
  • Maintain accurate records of pesticide and fertilizer applications.
  • Oversee day-to-day activities to maintain a professional-level field, including turf management, pesticide and fertilizer applications, and infield clay/pitching mounds/homeplate areas.
  • Assist with field preparation for baseball-related activities and manage field requests from players and coaching staffs.
  • Manage game day and non-game day field activities, including field preparations for MLB games, concerts, and corporate events.
  • Ensure maintenance of all equipment to extend its useful life and appearance.
  • In the absence of the Director of Field Operations or Field Manager, this role may be responsible for performing all field activities, managing staff, and communicating with front office employees, coaches, and players.
Requirements:
  • Associate or Bachelor's Degree in Turf Management, Plant Science, Soil Science, or Agronomy.
  • Experience and knowledge of essential turf grass cultural practices, including mowing, aerification, topdressing, sodding, seeding, irrigation, and fertility applications.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in managing a natural grass playing surface at a professional or collegiate sports venue.
  • Active member of the Sports Field Management Association.
  • Supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Achieved or in pursuit of Certified Sports Field Manager certification.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Experienced knowledge of agronomy and regional turfgrass management practices, including pest, disease, and weed management, soil chemistry, and variety of aerifications.
  • Experience and knowledge of irrigation repairs and general use of irrigation systems.
  • Ability to safely operate a variety of equipment, including mowers, tractors, turf cultivating implements, forklifts, skid steers, boom lift, and scissor lifts.
  • Experience and knowledge of small engine use and maintenance.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, proactive planning, and creative thinking to support operations.
  • Ability to meet deadlines under pressure and adjust to rapidly changing work schedules and environmental conditions throughout the baseball season.
  • Budget management skills are preferred but not required.
  • Ability to obtain a District of Columbia issued Pesticide Applicators License and abide by all regulations.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Required to work days, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Physical/Environmental Requirements:
  • Field management employees perform most of their work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • The job is not considered dangerous; however, pesticides can be harmful if not handled with caution.
  • Employees working with tools and machines can be injured if they use them carelessly.
  • Worker will be subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme heat, extreme cold, noise, hazards, and atmospheric conditions.
Compensation:

The projected annual salary range for this position is $55,000 - $64,000. Actual pay is based on several factors, including qualifications, skills, expertise, education/training, certifications, and other organization requirements.
