Role Overview:
Sovah Martinsville is in search of a PRN Registered Respiratory Therapist responsible for assessing patients with respiratory issues and conducting necessary diagnostic evaluations.

Collaboration with physicians is essential to create and execute effective treatment plans for patients.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assess lung capacity and analyze blood samples using specialized equipment.
  • Administer and evaluate the effectiveness of prescribed therapies according to care plans. Monitor and document patient conditions as required.
  • Review and enhance respiratory care protocols based on patient outcomes and current best practices.
  • Respond to emergency situations, evaluating patient conditions and providing appropriate interventions.
  • Educate patients and their families about respiratory conditions and available community resources.
  • Manage inventory of respiratory supplies and medical gases, ensuring adequate stock levels.
  • Maintain cleanliness and functionality of equipment, performing routine maintenance and calibration.
  • Deliver diagnostic and therapeutic interventions for patients with acute and chronic respiratory conditions using advanced techniques and equipment.
  • Coordinate and administer various therapies, including medical gas therapy and aerosol treatments, as well as suctioning and care for tracheostomy patients.
  • Conduct electrocardiograph examinations and manage complex respiratory procedures.
  • Evaluate and adjust mechanical ventilation settings as necessary.
  • Participate in emergency response teams, providing critical airway management.
  • Provide training on equipment usage to staff and patients, collaborating with physicians on treatment strategies.
  • Conduct arterial catheterization and monitor hemodynamic equipment.
  • Assist in training new staff members.
  • Perform basic spirometry tests.
  • Ensure accurate documentation in the hospital information system.
  • Engage in the department's Quality Assurance initiatives.
  • Participate in preoperative and postoperative patient evaluations.

Educational Requirements:
Completion of an accredited Respiratory Care Program, holding an A.A.S. degree or equivalent certification.

Essential Skills:
Critical thinking, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently are crucial. The role demands physical stamina, including lifting and moving patients, and requires good manual dexterity and coordination. Candidates must be capable of working under pressure and managing extended shifts.

Certifications:
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is mandatory. Candidates must be licensed in Virginia as a Respiratory Care Practitioner and hold registration from the National Board for Respiratory Care (RRT).

Experience:
A minimum of one year in critical care settings, including experience with hemodynamic monitoring and mechanical ventilation, is required. Routine respiratory care experience is also necessary. Graduation from an Associate Degree program may substitute for one year of experience.
