Job Summary

Sovah Health - Martinsville is seeking a skilled Respiratory Therapist to join our team on a PRN basis. As a Respiratory Therapist - PRN Tier III, you will be responsible for providing high-quality respiratory care to patients with breathing-related conditions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct diagnostic testing and examinations to assess patient lung capacity and analyze blood samples.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans in consultation with physicians, and deliver and assess response to ordered therapy.
  • Evaluate respiratory care policies and procedures based on patient outcomes, current research, and best practices.
  • Respond to codes and calls for emergent assistance, assessing patient condition and delivering appropriate treatment.
  • Educate patients and families about their illness, providing information about community support groups and other resources.
  • Maintain storage areas with required supply levels and equipment, and perform preventative maintenance and calibration of machines.
  • Monitor, receive, stock, and distribute respiratory care supplies and medical gas cylinders.
  • Provide diagnostic and therapeutic interventions for patients with acute and chronic cardio-pulmonary dysfunction, utilizing state-of-the-art procedures and bio-medical equipment.
  • Coordinate and participate in the administration of medical gas therapy, humidity therapy, aerosol therapy, and other respiratory care procedures.
  • Perform twelve-channel electrocardiograph examinations, and calibrate, set up, and monitor mechanical ventilators, blood gas analyzers, and other equipment.
  • Evaluate, initiate, monitor, and wean patients from mechanical ventilation, and perform Holter Monitoring, Event Recorder, and arterial catheterization.
  • Participate in the routine maintenance of equipment, and transport patients requiring manual ventilatory support or supplemental oxygen to various locations within the hospital or to other hospitals.
  • Assist in the orientation and training of new personnel, and perform simple portable spirometry.
  • Post charges into the hospital information system, and participate in the department's Quality Assurance Program.
  • Participate in preoperative and post-operative evaluations of patients.
Requirements
  • Graduate of an approved Respiratory Care Program, with an A.A.S. degree, Certification of Graduation, or equivalent.
  • Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Full range of body motion, including handling and lifting patients, manual dexterity, and eye and hand coordination.
  • Corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
  • Working under stressful conditions and extended shifts.
Preferred Qualifications
  • AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia, to practice as a Respiratory Care Practitioner.
  • Certification by the American Heart Association in Basic Life Support.
  • Registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care (CRT) or (RRT).
Work Experience

Tier II - V: Minimum 18 months of RRT hospital experience, or minimum 36 months of CRT hospital experience.

Tier III: 2 shifts per week, $35 an hour.
