Role Summary:

Sovah Health - Martinsville is looking for a PRN Registered Respiratory Therapist to assess patients with respiratory conditions and perform diagnostic evaluations. Collaborate with physicians to create and execute treatment plans. Administer physiotherapy and educate patients on medication usage.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess lung function and analyze blood samples using a blood gas analyzer.
  • Deliver and evaluate responses to prescribed therapies according to care plans.
  • Review respiratory care protocols based on patient outcomes and current research.
  • Respond to emergency situations and provide necessary treatments.
  • Educate patients and families about respiratory conditions and available community resources.
  • Manage inventory of respiratory supplies and medical gases.
  • Ensure cleanliness and maintenance of equipment, performing necessary calibrations.
  • Provide diagnostic and therapeutic interventions for patients with respiratory dysfunction.
  • Administer various respiratory therapies as per physician directives.
  • Conduct electrocardiogram examinations and manage complex respiratory procedures.
  • Monitor and adjust mechanical ventilation as needed.
  • Participate in emergency response teams for critical situations.
  • Offer training on equipment usage to staff and patients.
  • Assist in patient transport requiring respiratory support.
  • Contribute to the orientation and training of new staff members.
  • Participate in quality assurance initiatives within the department.

Education Requirements:

  • Completion of an accredited Respiratory Care Program with an A.A.S. degree or equivalent.

Essential Skills:

  • Strong critical thinking and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to work independently in high-pressure environments.
  • Physical capability to handle patients and equipment safely.

Certifications:

  • AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Licensed as a Respiratory Care Practitioner in Virginia.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification.

Experience:

  • Minimum of one year in critical care settings, including experience with mechanical ventilation and patient assessments.
  • One year of routine respiratory care experience is also required.
  • Graduation from an Associate Degree program may substitute for one year of experience.
