Role Summary:

Sovah Health - Martinsville is looking for a PRN Respiratory Therapist Tier III to assess patients with respiratory issues and perform diagnostic evaluations. Collaborate with physicians to create and execute treatment plans. Responsibilities include:

  • Conducting lung capacity assessments and analyzing blood samples.
  • Administering prescribed therapies and monitoring patient responses.
  • Reviewing respiratory care protocols based on patient outcomes and current best practices.
  • Responding to emergency situations and providing necessary interventions.
  • Educating patients and families about respiratory conditions and available community resources.
  • Maintaining inventory and ensuring proper equipment sterilization and maintenance.
  • Providing therapeutic interventions for patients with acute and chronic respiratory conditions using advanced techniques and equipment.
  • Coordinating the administration of various respiratory therapies and treatments as per physician directives.
  • Performing complex procedures such as mechanical ventilation management and blood gas analysis.
  • Participating in the cardiac arrest response team and performing emergency airway management.
  • Assisting in the training and orientation of new staff members.
  • Engaging in departmental quality assurance initiatives.

Education Requirements:

  • Graduate from an accredited Respiratory Care Program with an A.A.S. degree or equivalent.

Skills Required:

  • Strong critical thinking and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to work independently in high-pressure situations.
  • Physical capability to handle and lift patients, with good manual dexterity.
  • Normal vision and hearing capabilities.

Certifications Needed:

  • AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Valid license to practice as a Respiratory Care Practitioner in Virginia.
  • Registered with the National Board for Respiratory Care (CRT or RRT).

Experience:

Minimum 18 months of hospital experience for RRT or 36 months for CRT.
