Sovah Health - Martinsville is seeking a skilled Respiratory Therapist to join our team on a PRN basis. As a Respiratory Therapist, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the success of our healthcare organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Examine patients with breathing-related conditions and conduct diagnostic testing to develop and implement a treatment plan.
  • Consult with physicians to discuss patient care and treatment options.
  • Perform physiotherapy and other treatments to help patients recover from respiratory conditions.
  • Teach patients and their families about respiratory care and provide education on the use of medications.
  • Monitor and record patient condition, communicating with healthcare teams as needed.
  • Evaluate respiratory care policies and procedures to ensure best practices and patient outcomes.
  • Respond to codes and emergent assistance, assessing patient condition and delivering appropriate treatment.
  • Coordinate and participate in the administration of medical gas therapy, humidity therapy, aerosol therapy, and other respiratory care procedures.
  • Perform complex respiratory care procedures, including calibrating and setting up mechanical ventilators and blood gas analyzers.
  • Evaluate, initiate, monitor, and wean patients from mechanical ventilation.
  • Participate in the routine maintenance of equipment and make periodic rounds to ensure proper functioning of bio-medical equipment.
  • Transport patients requiring manual ventilatory support or supplemental oxygen to various locations within the hospital or to other hospitals.
  • Assist in the orientation and training of new personnel.
  • Perform simple portable spirometry and post charges into the hospital information system.
  • Participate in the department's Quality Assurance Program.
Requirements
  • Graduate of an approved Respiratory Care Program, with an A.A.S. degree, Certification of Graduation, or equivalent.
  • Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
  • Full range of body motion, including handling and lifting patients, manual dexterity, and eye and hand coordination.
  • Corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
