Role Summary:

Sovah Health - Martinsville is looking for a PRN Respiratory Therapist Tier IV to assess patients with respiratory issues and perform diagnostic evaluations. Collaborate with medical professionals to create and execute treatment plans. Administer physiotherapy and educate patients on medication usage. Conduct lung capacity assessments and analyze blood samples using a blood gas analyzer.

  • Reviews respiratory care protocols based on patient outcomes and current best practices.
  • Responds to emergency situations, assessing patient conditions and providing necessary interventions.
  • Educates patients and families about illnesses and available community resources.
  • Manages respiratory care supplies and medical gas cylinders.
  • Maintains inventory and storage areas to ensure proper supply levels.
  • Disassembles, cleans, and sterilizes equipment while performing routine maintenance and calibration.
  • Delivers diagnostic and therapeutic interventions for patients with acute and chronic respiratory conditions using advanced techniques and equipment.
  • Coordinates medical gas therapy, humidity therapy, aerosol treatments, and suctioning as per physician directives.
  • Conducts twelve-channel electrocardiograph tests and complex respiratory procedures, including mechanical ventilator management.
  • Evaluates and weans patients from mechanical ventilation.
  • Participates in emergency response teams for critical situations.
  • Provides training on equipment usage to staff and patients.
  • Conducts arterial catheterization and monitors hemodynamic equipment.
  • Participates in equipment maintenance and ensures proper functioning.
  • Assists in training new staff members.
  • Performs portable spirometry tests.
  • Records charges in the hospital information system.
  • Engages in the department's Quality Assurance initiatives.
  • Participates in preoperative and postoperative patient evaluations.

Education Requirements:

  • Graduate from an accredited Respiratory Care Program with an A.A.S. degree or equivalent certification.

Essential Skills:

  • Strong critical thinking and decision-making abilities; capable of working independently.
  • Physical stamina for handling patients and equipment, including lifting and moving items up to 100 lbs.
  • Requires normal vision and hearing capabilities.
  • Ability to work in high-pressure situations and extended shifts.

Certifications Required:

  • AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Licensed to practice as a Respiratory Care Practitioner in Virginia.
  • Registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care (CRT or RRT).

Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum of 18 months of RRT hospital experience or 36 months of CRT hospital experience.
