Principal WAF Engineer

The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in WAF engineering, particularly utilizing Terraform within Imperva, Azure, and/or AWS environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement and manage WAF solutions (specifically Imperva SaaS WAF)
  • Engage in customer-facing interactions, ensuring a service-oriented approach
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to address and resolve technical challenges
  • Possess a foundational understanding of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles
  • Take initiative in identifying and resolving issues
  • Potential to transition into an edge-defense role, though current focus remains on WAF
  • Articulate contributions and achievements in previous roles effectively

Daily Responsibilities:

This role requires leveraging deep enterprise-level knowledge to mitigate cybersecurity risks. The successful candidate will work closely with various business units, including Digital & Technology, Compliance, Risk Management, Audit, and Legal, to integrate security processes and tools into the organizational culture, fostering a comprehensive security ecosystem.

  • Act as the primary contact for the global WAF team
  • Coordinate with application teams for WAF infrastructure deployment
  • Implement standardized WAF rulesets
  • Assist application teams in troubleshooting interactions with WAF rulesets
  • Deploy, configure, and maintain cloud-native web application firewalls
  • Develop project and implementation plans for team and client initiatives
  • Generate internal documentation for WAF products
  • Establish monitoring and reporting components for WAF on a per-application basis

Essential Skills:

  1. Expertise in WAF technologies
  2. Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code
  3. Strong customer focus
  • Proven experience with cloud-based WAF solutions in Imperva, AWS, and/or Azure
  • Ability to write and review various requirement types (business, user, non-functional/system)
  • Comfortable engaging with stakeholders and technical teams throughout the development lifecycle
  • Solid understanding of system architecture and network applications
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to manage conflicting priorities
  • Excellent communication skills with a desire to share knowledge
  • Proven track record of meeting tight deadlines

Preferred Qualifications:

5 to 7 years of advanced knowledge in security, application security, or network security.

Experience Requirements:

A minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Educational Background:

Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in a related field.

Technical Proficiencies:

Experience with cloud-based WAF solutions in Imperva, AWS, and/or Azure.

Certifications:

Preferred industry-related certifications such as CCSP, CCSS, or cloud-specific certifications.
