Position Summary

The Principal Engineer plays a pivotal role in delivering technical leadership for the most intricate and vital engineering initiatives. This position is responsible for facilitating internal training for engineering personnel and creating presentations for executive management while recommending and implementing beneficial changes for the organization. The role involves developing comprehensive engineering studies, plans, specifications, calculations, evaluations, design documents, and performance assessments related to the planning, design, licensing, construction, operation, and maintenance of the company's utility facilities and systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct advanced engineering research studies and technical analyses in specialized areas that are not widely available in the competitive engineering landscape.
  • Provide technical oversight and mentorship to all engineering staff.
  • Lead project teams in formulating essential engineering solutions.
  • Offer technical expertise for critical components of plants and facilities.
  • Act as the company's authority in the discipline, providing expert consultation and recommendations to senior management.
  • Develop detailed design specifications and prepare bid packages for external engineering services and contracts to meet business needs.
  • Review and assess system and equipment performance, tests, and analyses conducted by senior engineering personnel.
  • Engage in government, industry, academic, and other relevant associations or workgroups that can influence or establish policies affecting the future of the utility sector.
  • Determine effective methods and techniques for achieving results.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of 10 years of industry experience as a practicing engineer, including experience in highly specialized technical work.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license is strongly preferred; may be required based on the role.
  • Demonstrated project management and leadership skills, with the ability to collaborate as a team member, adhere to project timelines, manage budgets, and fulfill commitments.
  • Ability to perform effectively under pressure while maintaining composure and focus.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the capability to work cross-functionally to understand requirements and present alternatives and recommendations.
  • Proficient in the use of personal computers and automated tools.
  • Expert knowledge and application of principles in the area of engineering specialty, along with an understanding of the company's business and relevant policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Familiarity with applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and electrical codes.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
