General Purpose

The primary objective of this role is to develop, modify, and enhance engineering standards that impact all aspects of civil, distribution, transmission, and substation systems design within the organization. This position requires collaboration with various internal teams to assess external suppliers and manufacturers, ensuring the integrity and reliability of materials used.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist procurement in efforts to enhance material redundancy and address shortages.
  • Engage directly with suppliers to build and maintain strong business relationships.
  • Assess suppliers' capabilities to manufacture materials effectively and reliably.
  • Review manufacturer designs to ensure compliance with internal specifications and standards.
  • Create and maintain documentation outlining material specifications and installation guidelines.
  • Ensure all documentation adheres to applicable federal, state, and governing body regulations.
  • Lead investigations into equipment failures, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
  • Explore and evaluate new technologies aimed at cost reduction, reliability enhancement, and wildfire risk mitigation.
  • Provide field support to resolve issues related to equipment, standards, and compliance.
  • Collaborate with field teams to address technical challenges and ensure safe operations.
  • Review joint use applications and pole sizing requests.
  • Offer recommendations for material usage based on specific applications.
Requirements:

For Engineer I level:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Understanding of governing body regulations and their impact on engineering standards.
  • Basic knowledge of material failure modes and detection methods.
  • Fundamental understanding of civil, substation, transmission, and distribution system layouts.
  • Ability to troubleshoot outages related to material failures.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for cross-functional collaboration.

For Engineer II level:

  • Proven problem-solving abilities.
  • Understanding of relevant governing body regulations.
  • Experience in designing civil, substation, transmission, and distribution systems.

For Engineer III level:

  • Expertise in identifying governing body regulations related to materials.
  • Experience in troubleshooting techniques for material-related outages.

For Senior Engineer level:

  • Advanced ability to interpret governing body regulations.
  • Extensive experience in designing and troubleshooting systems.

For Principal level:

  • Expert knowledge of governing body regulations and material failure detection.
  • Significant experience in system design and troubleshooting.
Preferences:
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
  • Advanced degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering with a focus on power systems.
  • Professional Engineering License.
