Position Overview

The Academic Support Facilitator plays a crucial role in enhancing student learning experiences by providing structured support in various academic disciplines. This position requires a proactive approach to fostering a collaborative learning environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Establish and maintain communication with course instructors to understand course expectations and requirements.
  • Actively engage in the recruitment of students for supplemental instruction sessions.
  • Prepare thoroughly and arrive punctually for each instructional session.
  • Familiarize oneself with available campus resources to assist students effectively.
  • Design and implement interactive learning strategies during sessions, avoiding traditional lecturing or completing assignments for students.
  • Create educational materials such as handouts and quizzes to support learning objectives.
  • Exhibit professionalism in all interactions and responsibilities.
  • Handle administrative tasks, including the collection of attendance data and submission of reports on a weekly basis.
  • Adhere to established policies and procedures.
  • Conduct regular meetings with course instructors to discuss student progress and challenges.
  • Promptly report any significant issues to the program coordinator.
Time Commitment
  • Dedicate approximately 3 hours weekly for follow-up meetings with instructors, with a minimum of two meetings per week.
  • Allocate 3 hours for session preparation.
  • Commit to 3 hours of instructional time.
  • Set aside 3 hours for office hours to assist students.
  • Participate in a half-day paid training and orientation prior to the semester.
  • Engage in group meetings with fellow leaders to share insights and strategies.
Qualifications
  • Maintain a minimum overall GPA of 3.3.
  • Achieve an 'A' in the relevant course.
  • Be available for flexible working hours, totaling 15-20 hours per week.
  • Demonstrate effective study skills and strategies.
  • Exhibit strong organizational and time management abilities.
  • Possess excellent communication skills.
  • Prior enrollment in the relevant course is highly desirable.
  • Obtain a faculty recommendation based on content competency.
  • Be capable of working with a diverse student population.
  • Commit to fulfilling the agreed-upon hours.
  • Attend mandatory paid training before the semester begins.
  • Previous teaching or tutoring experience is preferred.
  • Understand various learning styles and adapt teaching methods accordingly.
  • Graduate students or upper-level undergraduates are encouraged to apply.
Physical and Mental Demands

The role requires the ability to perform detailed tasks with sustained attention. Employees may encounter a variety of unrelated tasks, requiring strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Work Environment

Employees may occasionally work in confined spaces and must be adaptable to different work conditions.

Special Requirements

As part of the health and safety protocols, proof of COVID-19 vaccination and booster is required for all employees.

Compensation

This is a part-time position with a salary range of $25-$26 per hour.
