Job Summary:

This position is for a Senior Fire Protection Engineer who will work on various projects as part of the NS&E engineering execution center team. The projects that will be assigned involve government work throughout various sectors, including DOD and DOE. The successful candidate must have strong organization and teamwork skills, proven problem-solving skills, a can-do attitude, and the ability to innovate designs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Participate in the design and development of fire protection systems and equipment, including sprinkler, fire pump, fire alarm, and mass notification systems, in accordance with applicable procedures, codes, standards, and contract requirements.
  • Analyze life safety requirements for buildings, including building code compliance, occupancy determination, occupant load calculations, and egress analysis.
  • Perform on-site fire protection system evaluations and assist with final system testing. Perform building and fire code analyses and interpretations.
  • Provide technical guidance in the review of engineering analyses and engineering judgments for alternative fire barrier systems, opening protectives, and penetration firestops.
  • Participate in pre-award meetings, as appropriate. Attend post-award contract meetings, such as post-award kickoff meetings (PAK), preconstruction conferences, informal or formal partnering meetings, schedule acceptance meetings, design review meetings, weekly progress meetings, and Facility Turnover Planning Meetings.
  • Visit construction sites to monitor progress and resolve construction issues in a timely manner.
  • Assist in identifying the need for a modification to scope, cost, and/or schedule based on collaboration with the construction contractor, Supported Command, designer of record, PM, and/or other entities.
  • Support the issuance of requests for proposal by assisting in determining needed changes and writing technical scopes of work.
  • Assist with construction quality assurance by performing code-required special inspections or required observations.
  • Participate in implementing programs and procedures to ensure employee and facility safety in accordance with all OSHA, NFPA, and Life Safety Code requirements. Maintain current knowledge of all building and fire protection codes and regulations to ensure compliance.
Requirements:
  • Requires a bachelor's degree in Fire Protection Engineering (or related) and a minimum of 5-8 years of relevant professional work experience.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must be able to complete a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Fire Protection Engineering.
  • Registered Professional Engineer in the USA.
