Position Objective/Description:
This role involves not only hands-on engagement but also provides direct oversight and coordination for pipeline installation teams on significant civil engineering projects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Analyzes project specifications alongside the project manager to strategize procedures for pipeline installation sequencing.
  • Oversees and manages daily operations of the pipeline crew.
  • Operates and directs heavy machinery for the excavation, installation, and backfilling of large pipes and culverts.
  • Conducts site inspections to determine the sequencing and methodology for pipeline installation while surveying for potential hazards or safety issues.
  • Ensures crew safety and enforces organizational policies.
  • Plans drainage pipe installation to minimize interference with other project activities and public traffic.
  • Establishes a safe working environment that adheres to OSHA regulations and the company's safety protocols.
  • Complies with federal, state, and company environmental guidelines.
  • Monitors assigned equipment for mechanical issues and operates machinery to confirm repairs.
  • Reviews work to ensure that craftsmanship meets specifications and adheres to construction timelines.
  • Utilizes instruments such as lasers, grade rods, and transit levels to set appropriate grades for pipeline installation.
  • Reviews employee timecards through project management software.
  • Responsible for the production and planning of various types of pipeline installations.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Proficient in reading and accurately interpreting construction drawings, blueprints, and plans.
  • Extensive knowledge and proven experience with underground utility pipelines for water, sewer, and drainage systems.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong focus on teamwork and collaboration.
  • Exceptional communication skills.
  • Ability to manage personnel and ensure timely completion of tasks.
  • Capability to perform, demonstrate, and inspect the proper installation of sanitary sewer gravity pipes ranging from 4" to 24".
  • Ability to perform, demonstrate, and inspect the proper installation of pressure pipes from 4" to 36" with fittings.
Physical Demands:
  • Must be capable of performing manual labor that requires extensive physical exertion, including standing, walking, twisting, bending, handling objects, reaching, climbing, squatting, kneeling, and occasionally lifting or moving heavy objects.
  • Must be able to regularly lift and carry at least 50 pounds and occasionally lift objects exceeding 50 pounds.
  • Requires excellent agility, focus, balance, and manual dexterity.
  • Must be able to hear and comprehend oral instructions in a noisy environment.
  • Regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel, or operate tools and controls.
  • Excellent hand-eye coordination is essential.
  • Good vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus are necessary.
Education / Experience:
  • High School diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Five years of experience in heavy Department of Transportation (DOT) underground utility work.
  • A minimum of two years of experience supervising pipe/culvert installation on major civil projects.
  • Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
Work Environment:
Regularly works outdoors in various weather conditions, including extreme heat and humidity, and is exposed to uneven surfaces and natural terrain. Frequently works near moving machinery and is often exposed to wet or humid conditions and vibrations. Occasionally exposed to fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and electrical hazards. The noise level in the work environment is typically loud. May require travel and working away from home for extended periods, including occasional nights and weekends.
