Purpose and Scope

This position focuses on Electrical System Engineering, encompassing a range of assignments related to fire alarm and fire suppression system engineering throughout project development, design, operations, installation, and maintenance at designated facilities.

Job Duties and Essential Responsibilities

System Specific

Demonstrate a robust understanding of fire alarm and fire suppression system design, operation, and maintenance, along with NFPA code compliance.

Maintenance

Update and enhance asset information in the Maximo database for designated equipment following the Maintenance Action Request (MAR) process. Create and sustain job plans and preventive maintenance schedules for assigned equipment in line with operational and industry standards. Address and justify preventive maintenance deferrals for assigned equipment. Conduct site assessments to diagnose system issues, propose solutions, and offer recommendations for system restoration. Assist technicians in troubleshooting equipment-related problems as necessary. Provide technical guidance for any anomalies that arise. Document and resolve failure anomalies concerning assigned equipment. Prepare Technical Anomaly reports and presentations detailing issues, concerns, and resolutions for assigned equipment to the Engineering Review Board.

Integrated Operations Support

Coordinate mission activities related to NASA and customer requirements to support the launch schedule, including the development of launch site test plans and coordination with relevant documentation. Participate in console operations during testing and launch activities as required for assigned systems.

Readiness

Contribute to and actively engage in relevant System Health and Readiness Program (SHARP) teams. Develop and present mission-related briefings to NASA and/or EGS customers as necessary to address support readiness or failure concerns. Conduct readiness evaluations of assigned systems and equipment.

Project Support

Collaborate closely with requesters, customers, and various engineering, logistics, financial, and program management teams to establish system specifications and requirements. Maintain direct communication with internal and external stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle, from initial concept to final design and commissioning, including design reviews and technical meetings. Assist in the creation of technical proposals and statements of work, providing insights on the technical aspects and required efforts for the proposed scope. Develop task order requirements for Operations & Maintenance Documentation (OMD) updates within specified timeframes.

Other Responsibilities

Interpret and provide guidance on assigned equipment using schematic and single-line diagrams. Develop, maintain, and produce technical documentation and system specifications. Ensure compliance with engineering documentation standards and testing procedures. Conduct site visits and experimental investigations to analyze engineering challenges, propose solutions, and offer recommendations. Assess systems and equipment for necessary upgrades to meet new code requirements or enhance functionality. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Requirements

A Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, along with 15+ years of relevant experience or equivalent qualifications. NICET Level III certification in Fire Alarm Systems, Inspection and Testing of Fire Alarm Systems, or Special Hazard Systems is preferred. NFPA certification as a Certified Fire Protection Specialist and Certified Fire Plan Examiner is advantageous. Training in fire alarm hardware, software, and programming is preferred. Information Technology training is also beneficial. Strong communication and analytical skills are essential.

Preferred Qualifications:

Some limited travel may be required. Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain necessary security clearances.

Other Requirements:

+ Must be a U.S. citizen and capable of obtaining and maintaining required clearances.

+ Proficiency in English, both verbal and written, is essential.

+ A valid driver's license is required.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

This role involves typical office work with no unusual hazards; occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds; continuous sitting while using a computer; regular visual attention to documents; consistent communication requirements; and a need for mental alertness. Fieldwork will primarily involve site assessments in support of design projects and troubleshooting. Safety training and Personal Protective Equipment will be provided.
