Position Overview - Awake Overnight Youth Counselor

Reporting To: Awake Overnight Supervisor

Compensation: Up to $20.00 per hour plus a $500 Sign-On Bonus

Location: Hampton, NH

Key Responsibilities:

As an Awake Overnight Youth Counselor, you will be responsible for delivering services to students in alignment with program objectives and each student's Individual Treatment Plan. Building connections with students is essential for fostering understanding, compassion, and progress in treatment. Your role will involve providing engaging and meaningful programming that supports a positive environment and facilitates treatment advancements.

Core Duties Include:
  • Ensuring 100% supervision of students to maintain their safety throughout the overnight hours.
  • Assisting the second shift staff with the bedtime routine.
  • Preparing students for the day during the morning wake-up routine and hygiene activities.
  • Gathering relevant information regarding students' acute issues that may impact the overnight shift.
  • Conducting compassionate fifteen-minute bed-checks in accordance with established policies.
  • Providing crisis support to students exhibiting unsafe behaviors.

Encouraging Student Success:
  • Maintain vigilant supervision of students at all times.
  • Celebrate student achievements, reinforce positive behaviors, and support growth through challenges.
  • Engage with students as a compassionate and understanding professional.
  • Obtain TCI certification and apply TCI principles in practice.
  • Utilize an understanding of ARC to create a framework for student success.
  • Manage student crises with empathy and aim for positive resolutions.

Facilitating Residential Routines:
  • Arrive at work punctually and manage time effectively.
  • Participate in pre-shift meetings to align on objectives.
  • Plan and implement meaningful programming relevant to students' lives.
  • Internalize the daily schedule and understand programmatic rituals and routines.
  • Encourage students to take responsibility for their environment and personal growth.

Understanding Risk and Protective Factors:
  • Learn about the impact of trauma and other risk factors on students.
  • Engage in the program's residential treatment model.
  • Seek specific information about students through ITPs, training, and assessments.
  • Practice negotiation and collaboration with students to achieve program goals.

Documentation and Professionalism:
  • Document service delivery and behavior-related incidents promptly and accurately.
  • Maintain logs, incident reports, and other required documentation.
  • Actively recognize the importance of precise and timely documentation.

Professional Development:
  • Manage personal stress effectively and maintain professional boundaries.
  • Seek supervision, mentorship, and opportunities for professional growth.
  • Connect program policies to daily operations and decision-making.

Qualifications:
  • Associate or bachelor's degree or 60 college credits.
  • OR equivalent of 2 years of full-time experience working with children.
  • OR a combination of credits in human services and experience with children totaling 2 years.
  • OR 7 years of parenting experience.

Other Requirements:
  • Valid driver's license preferred & must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.
  • Satisfactory completion of background and pre-employment checks.
