Job Summary

The Patient Access Apprentice role at MaineHealth is an entry-level position that plays a critical role in the hospital's patient access and scheduling process. As the first point of contact for many patients, this role requires a caring and professional attitude to ensure a positive experience for all individuals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Determine insurance coverage and eligibility, and perform required pre-authorization procedures.
  • Maintain patient care unit control for all bedded units.
  • Provide comprehensive financial counseling and assistance to patients.
  • Establish and monitor each patient's account prior to their visit, during inpatient stays, and up to 5 days post-discharge.
  • Ensure the accuracy of patient identification numbers and demographic and financial information used to create electronic bills.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Previous clerical healthcare and customer service experience preferred.
