Utility Technician

Job Summary
The City of Houston is seeking a highly skilled Utility Technician to join our team in the Wastewater Operations department. As a Utility Technician, you will be responsible for the effective maintenance and operation of the wastewater utility, utilizing troubleshooting skills to address utility operations and maintenance.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with rodding, cleaning, and televising sewer lines
- Inspect work sites
- Operate trucks and equipment to transport equipment, tools, and materials to work locations
- Prepare and maintain reports, forms, and records for operations, assignments, service calls, maintenance, and repairs in wastewater utilizing a data tracking system
- Perform maintenance tasks related to the operation of the wastewater collection system
- Review GIS to determine wastewater line segments and manhole locations
- Locate and repair manholes, sewer lines, cleanouts, etc.
Working Conditions
This position requires routine exposure to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture, and air pollution. The position may involve periodic exposure to chemical substances and physical trauma of a minor nature such as cuts, bruises, and minor burns.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 6 months of general maintenance/work experience
- Valid Texas driver's license
- Ability to read, write, add, subtract, and follow oral and/or basic written instructions
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in plant and/or lift station maintenance or collection system
- Training and experience in predictive, corrective, and/or preventive maintenance programs related to mechanical equipment such as pumps, motors, etc.
