DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The role involves ensuring the efficient maintenance and operation of wastewater utilities. The technician will utilize problem-solving skills to manage utility operations and maintenance tasks. Responsibilities include:Operating and maintaining sampling instruments while conducting field analysis of water samples.Collecting, preserving, and transporting samples to laboratories for further analysis.Managing valves and flushing hydrants to resolve water quality concerns.Preparing and maintaining operational reports, forms, and records related to service calls, maintenance, and equipment repairs using a data tracking system.Operating centrifuge or dryer in the sludge processing stage and performing maintenance tasks related to wastewater treatment facilities.Isolating water lines through valve operation and GIS review to identify valve locations.Renewing utility services to specified areas.Performing additional duties as assigned.WORKING CONDITIONS
Routine exposure to varying levels of heat, cold, moisture, and air pollution is expected. The position may involve occasional exposure to chemical substances and minor physical trauma such as cuts and bruises.
This position requires physical activities including stooping, bending, and lifting items of significant weight, along with occasional walking on uneven surfaces.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
A high school diploma, GED, or equivalent literacy and numeracy skills are required, supplemented by specialized training in construction equipment operation.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Six months of general maintenance or work experience is required.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
A valid Texas driver's license is necessary, along with compliance with the City of Houston's driving policy.
PREFERENCES
Preference will be given to candidates with experience in plant and/or lift station maintenance or collection systems.

Salary determination factors include candidate qualifications and pay rates of other employees in this classification. The salary range is:
Pay Grade 13
