Role Overview

The Detection Engineer plays a crucial role in enhancing T-Mobile's security detection capabilities. This position collaborates with various teams within security operations to safeguard our customers and employees effectively. The ideal candidate will leverage multiple technologies to develop detections and correlations, utilizing tools such as SIEM, EDR, and Network Monitoring.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop new detection capabilities based on emerging attack techniques.
  • Maintain and optimize existing detection systems.
  • Collaborate with CSOC, CIRT, CTI, and other teams to refine processes.
  • Engage with system owners and the SIEM team to integrate new data sources.
  • Investigate incidents as part of the Cyber Incident Response Team (CIRT).
  • Create content to enhance detection capabilities within the Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) tool.
  • Analyze diverse data sources to identify security incidents.
  • Respond swiftly to network security incidents to minimize damage and restore services.
  • Advocate for process improvements, recommending tools and infrastructure enhancements.
  • Lead small to medium-sized projects as needed.
  • Provide metrics and reports as requested.
  • Participate in the Cyber Incident Response Team (CIRT) rotation, which may involve non-standard working hours.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent experience.
  • 2-4 years of experience in information security technology or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of various security domains.
  • Familiarity with critical security elements, threats, vulnerabilities, and safeguards.
  • Knowledge of information security policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and the capacity to work under pressure.
  • Experience in a large enterprise environment.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages (Python, Perl, Shell, etc.) is preferred.
  • Relevant certifications such as CISSP, CISM, or CISA are advantageous.
