Job Overview:

Regional IT Systems Specialist

The Regional IT Systems Specialist (B16) is responsible for executing moderately complex computer systems support tasks.

This role encompasses delivering customer assistance for agency information technology systems and managing automated office equipment in various environments, including stand-alone, networked, or mainframe setups.

The specialist may also provide training to others and operates under general supervision, exercising moderate discretion in decision-making.

Key Responsibilities:
- Diagnose and resolve computer-related issues.
- Prepare equipment for employee utilization and ensure proper installation of cables, operating systems, or relevant software.
- Install, maintain, relocate, and support testing and upgrading of both new and existing hardware or software.

- Offer customer service and respond to user inquiries concerning computer software, hardware operations, and the functionality of systems and software applications.

- Aid in the upkeep of local area networks or wide area networks, including cable and switch installations, as well as inventory management.
- Execute backup, recovery, and archival procedures for files stored on the network.
- Liaise with vendors, users, management, and network programming personnel.
- Act as a point of contact for remote network locations to clarify issues and identify solutions or corrective measures.

- Assist in developing training materials and providing user support and training on available hardware, software, and utilities.

- Help maintain the physical and logical structures of the network while installing and testing hardware and software.

- Participate in performance tuning and capacity planning activities to optimize network resource performance and maintain network support software.

- Contribute to or conduct evaluations of upgraded or new hardware and software, identifying strengths, weaknesses, and potential advantages for the agency.

- Support the maintenance of the operating system and security software used on the network, including adding new users and establishing rights and privileges. - Perform related duties as assigned.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

- Proficient understanding of network facilities and data processing methodologies; familiarity with personal computer hardware and software; knowledge of network operating systems and security software; and experience with performance monitoring and capacity management tools.

- Ability to identify, analyze, and resolve network and computer systems issues.

- Proficient in using IBM or Dell personal computers or laptops released within the last four years, as well as Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Internet Explorer, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, and Visio (or equivalent), and addressing computer systems challenges.
