PROGRAM SUMMARY
The Community Support Advocate (CSA) plays a crucial role in providing training in essential independent living skills, ensuring individuals are equipped to be responsible tenants while maintaining their mental well-being. The CSA collaborates with the Program Supervisor to enforce agency policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities

DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Collaborates with individuals to help them define and achieve their personal life aspirations.
  • Ensures the functionality of fire safety equipment and instructs individuals on its use.
  • Educates individuals on emergency contacts for various situations, including medical and psychiatric emergencies.
  • Aids individuals in accessing community and neighborhood resources.
  • Acts as a liaison among individuals, landlords, and treatment team members.
  • Teaches vital independent living skills to help individuals maintain housing stability and prevent homelessness, covering areas such as apartment upkeep, social skills, budgeting, self-medication, personal hygiene, transportation, shopping, cooking, and educational or vocational pursuits.
  • Develops Individualized Support Plans in collaboration with individuals and treatment teams, promoting adherence to goals related to housing stability, medication management, employment, mental health services, and community-based support.
  • Encourages individuals to maintain mental health stability through counseling, crisis intervention, participation in daytime activities, and utilization of available resources.
  • Coordinates with Health Home services to ensure comprehensive support.
  • Assists individuals in meeting mandated treatment requirements, including legal obligations.
  • In supportive housing programs, the CSA provides tenancy support, community integration skill-building, and stabilization services to help individuals thrive in community settings.
  • Completes all necessary documentation accurately and promptly, ensuring compliance with quality standards.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

  • Meets safety training requirements and follows safety protocols, reporting any hazards.
  • Participates in all required meetings and events, including those outside regular hours.
  • Complies with job requirements and maintains adherence to standards.
  • Upholds FREE's ethical standards as outlined in the Employee Handbook and Code of Conduct.

Qualifications

EDUCATION
High School Diploma is required.

EXPERIENCE
Minimum of two years of experience in a relevant field or an Associate Degree in Human Services is preferred, particularly with individuals experiencing mental health or substance use disorders.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Proficient in computer usage and written communication.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Highly organized with excellent communication skills.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Valid driver's license is necessary, with the ability to meet criteria for driving on behalf of FREE.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position requires in-person engagement and travel as needed. Employees may need to use their own transportation for service delivery.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to sit, walk, and stand for extended periods.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Capability to operate standard office equipment.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
