Position: Principal Firmware Engineer/Architect (Full-Time)

Location: Flexible | Hybrid Work Model

Compensation: $200,000 - $260,000 with comprehensive benefits

Role Overview:

We are in search of a Principal Firmware Engineer/Architect specializing in firmware design and development. The ideal candidate will possess extensive expertise in FPGA and Xilinx technologies.

Key Qualifications:

  • Proficient in developing sophisticated instrument control software using Python and/or C, C++.
  • Experienced with FPGA, TI DSP, Xilinx Spartan, Zynq Ultrascale+, Vivado, and Vitis.
  • Strong understanding of Python's capabilities and limitations, with a commitment to rigorous testing and maintaining a clean codebase.
  • A reliable architect who inspires confidence in peers, demonstrating technical excellence and a passion for high-quality software development.
  • Self-motivated and collaborative, eager to explore new challenges and implement effective solutions.

What We Seek:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Alternatively, a Master's degree with at least 8 years of experience in software development and architectural design.
  • Hands-on experience in coding with Python, C, and C++ for control systems.
  • Expertise in architecture and system design for next-generation instruments.
  • Experience in the evolution of instrument codebases.
  • Practical knowledge in embedded firmware design, architecture, and development, including various analog and digital I/O, FPGA, DSP, and microcontrollers.
  • Familiarity with hardware description languages such as Verilog and VHDL.
  • Proficient in communication protocols (SPI, I2C, Ethernet, RS232).
  • Experience with narrowband and broadband lasers is advantageous.
  • A solid grasp of material physics and gas analysis is beneficial.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the development of next-generation analyzers while enhancing existing models.
  • Collaborate with scientists to implement processing strategies for experimental hardware setups.
  • Design and develop embedded systems that align with strategic business objectives and exceed client expectations.
  • Adhere to industry-standard design, development, and testing methodologies.
  • Promote best-in-class software development practices and design methodologies for new products.
  • Work in conjunction with other R&D and engineering teams throughout all development stages.

Essential Skills:

  • Instrumentation system design and architecture.
  • Embedded development expertise.
  • Proficiency in Python3 and Linux.
  • Experience with FPGA or Xilinx technologies.

Preferred Experience:

  • Background in control systems development.
  • Firmware development and electrical engineering knowledge (both digital and analog design).
  • Experience with FPGA and/or DSP for high-speed data acquisition is highly desirable.
  • Ability to rapidly prototype and validate software with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Familiarity with optical absorption spectroscopy, laser-based instrumentation, and gas phase physics is preferred.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Annual salary range: $200,000 - $260,000.

Compensation and title will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and comparable employee pay.
