Overview:

We are in search of a seasoned Principal Firmware Engineer/Architect to spearhead firmware design and development. Proficiency in FPGA and Xilinx technologies is essential.

Key Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience in developing sophisticated instrument control software using Python and/or C, C++.
  • Proficient in FPGA, TI DSP, Xilinx Spartan, Zynq Ultrascale+, Vivado, and Vitis.
  • Strong understanding of Python's capabilities and limitations, with a commitment to producing high-quality, maintainable code.
  • Recognized as a reliable architect among peers, demonstrating technical excellence and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

What We Seek:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field with at least 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Alternatively, a Master's degree with a minimum of 8 years in software development and architectural design.
  • Hands-on experience in Python, C, and C++ for control systems associated with our instruments.
  • Expertise in the architecture and design of next-generation instruments.
  • Experience in the long-term evolution of instrument codebases.
  • Proficient in embedded firmware design and development, including analog and digital I/O, FPGA, DSP, and microcontrollers.
  • Familiarity with hardware description languages such as Verilog and VHDL.
  • Solid understanding of communication protocols including SPI, I2C, Ethernet, and RS232.
  • Experience with narrowband and broadband lasers is advantageous.
  • A foundational understanding of materials physics and gas analysis is beneficial.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the advancement of our next-generation analyzers while enhancing existing systems.
  • Collaborate with scientists to implement effective processing strategies for experimental hardware.
  • Design and develop embedded systems that align with our strategic objectives and exceed client expectations.
  • Adhere to industry-standard design, development, and testing methodologies.
  • Promote best practices in software development and design for all new products.
  • Work in partnership with other R&D and engineering teams throughout all phases of development.

Essential Skills:

  • Expertise in instrumentation system design and architecture.
  • Proficient in embedded development.
  • Strong command of Python3 and Linux.
  • Experience with FPGA or Xilinx technologies.

Preferred Experience:

  • Background in control systems development.
  • Knowledge of firmware development and electrical engineering principles (both digital and analog).
  • Experience with FPGA and/or DSP for high-speed data acquisition is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in rapid software prototyping and validation with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience in optical absorption spectroscopy and laser-based instrumentation is a plus.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Annual salary range: $200,000 - $260,000 USD.

Compensation and title will be determined based on various factors including location, experience, qualifications, and market standards.
