Key Responsibilities:- Commercialization Leadership: Evaluate JAX technologies and intellectual property for commercial potential and licensing through technology transfer activities, fostering strategic partnerships and collaborations.
- Stakeholder Management: Collaborate with the Vice President of the JAX Rare Disease Translational Center, JAX faculty and staff to develop innovative strategies to market and license intellectual property and new products for commercialization, driving business growth and revenue.
- Communication: Consolidate complex technical data for the Rare Disease Translational Center's pre-clinical drug discovery initiatives, analyze commercial viability, and outline value propositions, ensuring effective communication with stakeholders.
- Source and Evaluate: Identify prospective commercial partners for JAX's intellectual property assets, assessing startup ventures and investment opportunities aimed at advancing translational research, and evaluating potential collaborations.
- Execute Agreements: Collaborate with the legal team to draft term sheets for exclusive license agreements, sponsored research agreements, and collaborative agreements, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Lead Negotiations: Spearhead negotiations for agreements with start-ups, patient foundations, and biotech/pharma companies to optimize the value of JAX's intellectual property, driving business outcomes and revenue growth.
- Intellectual Property Management: Collaborate with the Chief Intellectual Property Officer to prioritize JAX technology and intellectual property for potential commercialization, ensuring strategic alignment with business objectives.
- People Leadership: Engage with, oversee, and coach junior business development and licensing professionals in technology transfer and licensing processes, fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration.
- External Outreach: Craft materials for the Corporate Development Office's representation at external events, conferences, and internal forums, promoting The Jackson Laboratory's mission and values.
- Essential experience in negotiating contracts and legal agreements for technology commercialization, with a strong understanding of intellectual property law and biomedical research.
- Ten (10) years experience in Academic (technology transfer) and/or commercial biotech/pharma sectors (business development & licensing), with a proven track record in successfully negotiating and executing complex deals.
- Advanced knowledge in intellectual property law, comprehension of biomedical research and technology transfer practices, and ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Bonus if experienced in drug development processes, FDA regulations, start-up ventures, medical devices, or software applications, with a strong understanding of the biotech/pharma industry.
- Proven ability to comprehend and evaluate early-stage scientific concepts, with a strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Capability to work independently as well as collaboratively, with a strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Advanced knowledge in fostering and maintaining long-term relationships with business partners and faculty inventors, with a strong understanding of the importance of stakeholder management.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite, particularly MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, with a strong ability to learn new technologies and systems.
