Key Responsibilities

This role primarily involves providing HIV/STI/Hepatitis testing, community outreach, individual intervention, and group facilitation for the target population within the community and organization.

In addition to other responsibilities, this position entails:

  • Conducting HIV/STD and Hepatitis C screenings, which includes the collection of blood samples and urine specimens while adhering to universal precautions.
  • Engaging, counseling, managing, motivating, and effectively collaborating with high-risk, vulnerable patient populations, including those with substance dependencies.
  • Assessing clients' educational and risk-reduction needs and assisting them in developing strategies to mitigate high-risk behaviors.
  • Creating and delivering disease prevention, intervention, and health promotion presentations to diverse audiences in the community.
  • Participating in street outreach in public areas targeting populations, which involves disseminating information about available HIV services.
  • Providing HIV education, including fundamental information regarding prevention of transmission.
  • Documenting all activities and services rendered and submitting required documentation promptly.
  • Accurately entering all data as required into various databases.
  • Facilitating linkage and navigation for healthcare, support services, and risk reduction activities.
  • Conducting group and individual interventions, including screening, testing, life skills training, social rehabilitation, and risk reduction.
  • Attending and participating in staff meetings, program meetings, and training sessions as determined by the supervisor.
  • Following through on verbal and written communication from the Program Manager and adhering to program policies and procedures.

Qualifications and Skills

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Two years of Substance Abuse Training and/or one year of relevant job experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of HIV/AIDS and experience conducting intervention/prevention services with minority and at-risk populations preferred.
  • Flexibility in working hours, including evenings and weekends, is required.
  • Strong comfort level working with the target population, including late-night engagements in high-traffic areas.
  • Familiarity with community and county resources.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse populations in public settings.
  • Ability to effectively engage and work in a high-stress environment with vulnerable clients and individuals in crisis.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals at all levels and from various backgrounds.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality regarding clients and colleagues.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, other agencies, and the public.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and meet established deadlines.
  • Basic computer skills required: Microsoft Outlook, Office.
  • Basic math skills required: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge of basic risk reduction methods.
  • Basic assessment skills.
  • Ability to formulate interventions/recommendations based on assessments.
  • Basic individual intervention skills.
  • Basic group facilitation skills.
  • Ability to legally operate a motor vehicle and provide personal transportation.
