Key Responsibilities
This role primarily involves providing HIV/STI/Hepatitis testing, community outreach, individual intervention, and group facilitation to the target population within the community and organization.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Conducting HIV/STD and Hepatitis C screenings, including the collection of blood samples and urine specimens while adhering to universal precautions.
- Engaging, counseling, managing, motivating, and effectively collaborating with high-risk, vulnerable patient populations, including those with substance dependencies.
- Assessing clients' educational and risk-reduction needs and assisting them in developing strategies to mitigate high-risk behaviors.
- Creating and delivering disease prevention, intervention, and health promotion presentations to diverse audiences in the community.
- Participating in street outreach in public areas targeting populations, providing information about available HIV services.
- Delivering HIV education, including fundamental information on prevention of transmission.
- Documenting all activities and services rendered, submitting required documentation promptly.
- Accurately entering all data into various databases as required.
- Facilitating linkage and navigation for healthcare, support services, and risk reduction activities.
- Conducting group and individual interventions, including screening, testing, life skills, social rehabilitation, and risk reduction.
- Attending and participating in staff meetings, program meetings, and training sessions as directed by the supervisor.
- Following up on verbal and written communications from the Program Manager and adhering to program policies and procedures.
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Two years of Substance Abuse Training and/or one year of relevant job experience preferred.
- Knowledge of HIV/AIDS and experience conducting intervention/prevention services with minority and at-risk populations preferred.
Skills:
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Strong comfort level working with target populations, including late-night outreach in high-traffic areas.
- Familiarity with community and county resources.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of engaging diverse populations in public settings.
- Ability to effectively manage stress while working with high-risk, vulnerable clients and individuals in crisis.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding clients and colleagues.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, other agencies, and the public.
- Ability to follow instructions and meet established deadlines.
- Basic computer skills required: Microsoft Outlook, Office.
- Basic math skills required: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Knowledge of basic risk reduction methods.
- Basic assessment and intervention skills.
- Ability to legally operate a motor vehicle and provide personal transportation.
Important Notes:
- Preferred certifications/training/licenses include knowledge of HIV/AIDS and certification in Phlebotomy.
- A valid driver's license and proof of insurance are required.
- Must pass all drug and background screening requirements, including a level 2 federal background check.
