Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Surgical Technologist to join our team at United Hospital Center. As a Surgical Technologist, you will play a critical role in providing direct patient care and assisting the surgical team in the operating room.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare for surgical procedures by setting up sterile fields, draping patients, and maintaining aseptic technique.
  • Assist other perioperative team members in the care of the surgical patient, including transporting patients, equipment, and supplies.
  • Obtain and label physician-ordered medications for use on the sterile field under the direct supervision of the RN.
  • Transport patients, equipment, and supplies as needed.
  • Follow OSHA and Universal Precautions as per standard.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of case cart systems and on-call responsibilities.
Requirements
  • Graduate from a Surgical Technology Program.
  • Must be certified surgical technologist (ORT).
  • Must have CPR certification within 90 days of hire.
  • Five years' scrub experience.
  • Designed, implemented, and educated staff on two or more in-services.

  • Must have the ability to make sound judgments based on scientific principles, and also be able to collaborate with other multi-disciplinary team members in an appropriate fashion.
  • Must have the ability to comprehend and perform oral and written instructions and procedures.
  • Must have effective reading and comprehension skills.
  • Must have strong communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and all shifts.
Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Frequent walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and feeling are necessary body movements utilized in performing nursing duties throughout the work shift.
  • Must be able to lift, move and position patients of all weights, with varying amounts of assistance in a fair manner on a regular and recurring basis.
  • Must be able to read and write legibly in English.
  • Hearing within normal range is required (ie., to assess breath sounds, bowel sounds, apical pulse, monitors, etc.).
  • Visual acuity must be within normal range.
  • Must be able to perform heavy work.
