Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Interdisciplinary Supervisory Chemist/Supervisory Chemical Engineer/Supervisory Materials Engineer to join our team at the United States Fleet Forces Command. As a key member of our Nuclear Chemistry Branch, you will play a critical role in ensuring the quality and safety of our nuclear-powered vessels.

Responsibilities
  • Plan and schedule work to be accomplished by subordinates, ensuring timely completion of tasks and projects.
  • Support Equal Employment Opportunity and other management programs, promoting a diverse and inclusive work environment.
  • Plan, organize, and direct the activities of the Nuclear and Environmental Analysis Branch, ensuring compliance with NAVSEA, legal, regulatory, and administrative requirements.
  • Resolve work problems presented by subordinates, recommending ways to improve production and quality of work in the branch.
  • Maintain and ensure proper inventories and technical adequacy of materials, standards, and reagents.
  • Ensure compliance with the laboratory's Quality Management System, monitoring selected quality parameters and ensuring data integrity.
  • Provide scientific and technical service and guidance to Shipyards and Naval activities, including Naval Sea Systems Command.
  • Identify improvements in methods and means of accomplishing work, directing or coordinating the implementation of process and performance improvements.
Requirements

To be considered for this position, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

  • Experience with quality testing leading to safe and cost-effective repair of ships and ensuring the health of employees in compliance with Shipyard, state, and federal safety and environmental rules.
  • Experience with quality testing that has a direct impact on the reliability, integrity, and safety of ships serviced by Portsmouth Naval Shipyard and throughout the fleet.
  • Experience with providing laboratory services in complex functional areas.
  • Experience with providing efficient and effective analytical services and technical guidance to the Shipyard and other government activities.
  • Experience with analyzing, evaluating, and resolving complex regulatory and technical issues.
  • Experience with training and workflow to ensure adequate numbers of qualified personnel and resources are in place to carry out the Shipyard's mission of overhauling nuclear-powered vessels.
