About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Distribution Engineer to join our team at Leidos Engineering Inc. As a key member of our Power Delivery Services Team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the delivery of high-quality electrical utility design engineering services to our clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems for Leidos electric utility customers.
  • Collect field data to assist in developing work packages, with approximately 25-30% of time spent in the field and the remainder working remotely.
  • Review work provided by clients and assess requirements of scopes, interacting frequently with customers.
  • Perform engineering calculations, including structural analysis, guying calculations, and voltage drop and flicker calculations.
  • Provide engineering support during construction, including post-construction reviews to ensure all applicable engineering and construction standards have been met.
  • Conduct root cause analysis of outages and mitigation using engineering principles and design.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science or Associate Degree in an Engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial).
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Ability to utilize a personal vehicle for customer-related travel, with job-related travel reimbursed at IRS-approved rates.
  • Willingness to perform both field and office work, with ability to work in outdoor environments.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communications skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Relevant experience working directly with an electric utility or an electric utility consulting company performing electric distribution design engineering.
  • Experience with distribution design tools such as BOUD, Pole Foreman, Spida-Calc, O-Calc, or similar.
  • NESC Standards, ESRI, AutoCAD, and/or MicroStation, and GIS experience.
  • Structural analysis, guying calcs, cable pulling calcs, coordination of protective devices, and electric demand and fault currents calculations experience.
  • Work management software and job estimating software experience.
