Position Overview

Under general oversight, this role is designed to ensure the appropriate upkeep of city-owned, private, and commercial properties within the municipality by performing inspections to ascertain compliance with local codes and regulations. Employees in this position carry out skilled inspection tasks. The role entails maintaining awareness of municipal codes, inspecting for adherence, and enforcing regulations where discrepancies are identified. Related duties may be assigned as necessary.

Key Responsibilities

The following functions are representative of the tasks performed in this classification. They are not necessarily descriptive of any single position within the classification.   • Conducts various inspections, including property, housing, and business license evaluations, either through visual assessments or by traversing the designated area.
  • Drafts Courtesy Notices, Notices of Violations, and Uniform Code Citations.
  • Addresses inquiries from the public, other municipal agencies, and contractors, providing technical and professional guidance.
  • Researches and retrieves information from relevant documents such as Plat Maps, Site Plans, Surveys, and tax records.
  • Collaborates with and supports other municipal agencies, including the Fire Department, Police Department, and Building Department during inspections.
  • Performs damage assessments; compiles documentation and photographic evidence.
  • Prepares documentation for Code Board proceedings; provides expert testimony at Code Board and Court hearings.
Qualifications

A High School Diploma or GED is required; one year of experience in Code Enforcement or a related field such as law enforcement is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.

Special Requirements
  • Possession of a valid State of Florida Driver's License.
