Position Overview:

This role involves specialized technical work focused on the enforcement of County Ordinances and Regulations. The inspector will provide zoning information, perform field inspections for compliance, issue citations, refer to zoning maps and plats, research property legal information, and testify at hearings regarding violations or citations.


Qualifications:

Applicants must possess a minimum of two (2) years of experience in code and zoning enforcement or a closely related field.


Certifications and Licenses:

Must hold a valid Florida Class E Driver's License upon appointment and obtain the necessary authority to drive on County business. Additionally, candidates are required to have the Fundamentals of Code Enforcement certification from the Florida Association of Code Enforcement (FACE) at the time of appointment.


Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to candidates with an Associate's degree in criminal justice, public administration, business administration, or a related field. Other preferred certifications include:

  • Administrative Aspects of Code Enforcement certification
  • Legal Issues in Code Enforcement certification
  • Officer Safety and Field Applications certification
  • Property Maintenance and Housing Inspector certification
  • Parking Enforcement Specialist training
  • Crime Prevention through Environmental Design certification
  • LIAF Landscape Certification

Additional preferences include proficiency in Spanish, experience with POSSE/GIS, and a background in presenting cases before magistrates.


Key Responsibilities:

The primary duties of the Building Code Compliance Inspector include:

  • Providing zoning information and conducting field inspections for compliance with codes and regulations.
  • Issuing citations and referring to zoning maps and plats.
  • Researching legal information on properties and testifying at hearings related to violations.
  • Performing inspections for zoning permits, rental properties, and land use.
  • Answering inquiries from various stakeholders regarding land usage and zoning codes.

Work Environment:

This position requires light physical work, including walking or standing for extended periods and the ability to exert up to 20 pounds of force regularly. The role may involve routine exposure to traffic and moving machinery.
