Description

In this role, you will work with minimal oversight to conduct administrative and investigative tasks aimed at enforcing both state and local regulations. Your primary responsibility will be to manage and enforce landscape regulations that aim to conserve, protect, and enhance the abundance of trees and landscaping materials within the community. You will ensure that all building permits align with the relevant zoning codes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement strategies to conserve and enhance tree populations within the community. You will administer various land development regulations and provide insights regarding zoning and land use as they pertain to trees and forests.
  • Coordinate all landscaping operations in accordance with the established landscaping code. This includes reviewing surveys, site plans, and construction documents to ensure compliance with applicable zoning and landscape regulations.
  • Prepare proposals to address unauthorized tree removal and conduct field inspections to verify adherence to landscape and zoning codes. You will also handle inquiries and complaints from citizens, offering resolutions and mediating disputes as necessary.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant laws and regulations, interpreting codes for architects, developers, and contractors, while advising on compliance steps and tree preservation techniques.
  • Represent the Planning & Zoning Division at public meetings to foster positive community relations and explain the functions of the Landscaping Division.
  • Conduct research and compile data for special projects and reports, ensuring timely completion in line with established objectives.
  • Oversee all landscape-related development activities, including plan reviews and the management of assistant personnel or landscape inspectors, ensuring compliance with established standards and regulations.
  • Communicate effectively with various stakeholders, including town officials, property owners, and contractors, to coordinate activities and resolve landscaping-related issues.
  • Perform field surveys to confirm compliance with building permits and landscape codes.
  • Prepare documentation and maintain records related to your activities.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • An Associate's degree from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in landscaping and arboriculture.
  • Relevant certifications in landscaping, arboriculture, and horticulture.
  • A valid Florida driver's license with a clean driving record.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in code enforcement related to municipal regulations.
Special Skills:
  • In-depth knowledge of South Florida plant materials and horticultural practices.
  • Familiarity with landscape materials and techniques.
  • Some experience in design and drafting may be required.
