Position Overview

Position Title:
Instructor for Summer Session

Compensation Range:
An estimated starting salary is $66,259. Refer to the Unit 18 Lecturer table for the salary range applicable to this role. For current appointees, standard compensation will be based on the annual salary of the Unit 18 non-senate faculty effective as of the end of the previous fiscal year. Salary will be adjusted according to the instructional workload calculation.

Expected Start:
Summer Session A, B, C, and D will be held throughout the summer period.

Position Duration:
This role is set to last through the Summer Session 2024.

Position Description

The School of Natural Sciences is looking to recruit both full-time and part-time instructors to teach various subjects during the Summer 2024 sessions:

  • Classroom Engagement
  • Challenges in Fieldwork Education
  • Instruction Based on Projects
  • Additional courses as required.

These instructional courses encompass general education themes while emphasizing the teaching of STEM fields. The selected candidate will have the chance to contribute to program development and significantly influence the growth of the CalTeach initiative.

In addition to delivering the course(s), the instructor will be responsible for assessing student assignments and examinations, calculating and submitting grades, and maintaining regular office hours each week.

This is a limited-term position governed by the agreement for the Lecturers Unit between the University of California and the American Federation of Teachers. Employment terms and conditions are subject to UC policies and relevant collective bargaining agreements.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

A graduate degree in STEM, education, or a related discipline, along with experience teaching at the college or university level, is required.
