The Department of Natural Resources is looking to fill two positions in the Bemidji and Grand Rapids areas. These roles are essential in supporting the DNR Fleet Program across the Northwest and Northeast Regions by managing vehicle services for both internal and external stakeholders. Responsibilities include logistical support and mechanical tasks, such as scheduling maintenance and guiding mechanics and shop staff. Additionally, these positions oversee the procurement and inventory management of equipment, parts, and supplies, ensuring that fleet services are executed in a timely, safe, and cost-effective manner.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the reception and customization of new fleet vehicles and equipment, ensuring compliance with purchase order specifications and internal customer needs.
  • Assist the Regional Fleet Supervisor and shop personnel with maintenance and repairs of fleet equipment, adhering to DNR standards and applicable regulations.
  • Act as a backup for the Regional Fleet Supervisor, providing guidance to shop mechanics and prioritizing workloads and requests.
  • Manage seasonal loaner program activities for the region.
  • Oversee the disposal of fleet and non-fleet assets within the region.
  • Coordinate activities related to fleet pool vehicles and equipment.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Two years of experience in vehicle maintenance within an automotive environment, capable of performing mechanical tasks and directing shop personnel.
  • A two-year degree or certificate in maintenance or a related field may substitute for six months of experience.
  • A valid Class A license or the ability to obtain one within the first six months of employment.
  • Knowledge of vehicle safety principles and hazardous materials management.
  • Familiarity with equipment repair and maintenance practices.
  • Ability to obtain MIP Certification within six months of hire.
  • Ability to achieve ASE Certifications (C1 and P2) within six months of hire.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, capable of making decisions under pressure.
  • Ability to identify corrective actions and propose alternative solutions.
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills.
  • Customer service skills to effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in computer applications for report development and utilization (M5 database) and Microsoft Office for documentation and communication.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A two-year degree or certificate in maintenance or a closely related field.
  • Current ASE certifications (C1, P2).
  • Understanding of state policies and regulations regarding purchasing and contracting.
  • Knowledge of state and federal DOT regulations.

Additional Requirements:

This position involves driving duties and requires possession of a valid Class A license or the ability to obtain one within the first six months of employment. The selected candidate will undergo a pre-employment drug screening and participate in the ongoing DNR random drug and alcohol testing program.
