Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Large Animal Care Specialist to join our team at the Commonwealth of Virginia. As a key member of our veterinary care team, you will provide exceptional care and support to our patients and their owners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in providing basic and intensive nursing care to large animals, including administering medications and performing routine medical procedures.
  • Work closely with our clinical team to ensure the highest level of patient care and safety.
  • Provide technical assistance and support to our veterinary staff, including handling and restraining animals, and operating specialized equipment.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development to stay up-to-date on the latest veterinary care techniques and best practices.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
  • Previous experience in animal care or a related field highly desirable.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues, patients, and their owners.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with large animals, including horses, cattle, and other livestock.
  • Knowledge of veterinary care procedures and protocols.
  • Ability to lift and move heavy objects, and work in a physically demanding environment.
