Recreation Program Coordinator

This is a temporary, part-time position with the City of Pueblo, CO, under the supervision of the Recreation Supervisor and/or Coordinator. The Recreation Specialist is responsible for implementing and leading activities at assigned sites, including enforcing rules, regulations, and supervising staff while engaging with participants and the public to create a fun and structured environment. The position also involves assigned office tasks and assisting in program planning.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct supervision of staff at assigned sites, including daily guidance and evaluations
- Planning and implementation of weekly programs of activities
- Appropriate management of youth and adults
- Facilitation of activities for all groups
- Establishing a positive rapport with participants
- Attending staff meetings and training sessions, including state-mandated courses
- Assisting with staff meetings and training sessions
- Maintaining equipment and supplies, and tracking inventories
- Handling emergency incidents using mature, sound judgment
- Ensuring adequate communication with staff, supervisors, parents, and participants
- Operating the Point of Sale (POS) and registration system to establish memberships and collect fees
- Driving City vehicles with supplies and equipment to program sites and City facilities
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age by date of hire
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required
- Must submit to and pass a pre-employment background check
- Must submit to and pass a pre-employment drug screen
- At least two years of experience in a recreation setting
- Extensive knowledge in specialized programming
- A valid driver's license at the time of application, and a valid Colorado driver's license within 30 days of employment
Working Conditions
This position involves regular exposure to noise, inclement weather, temperature extremes, and extended direct exposure to the sun. CPR and First Aid certification must be obtained within six months of appointment. All required licenses and certifications must be maintained throughout the term of employment. Failure to obtain or maintain licenses and certifications may result in demotion or termination.
