Job Summary
As a valued member of the South Central Regional Medical Center team, the Phlebotomist plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our laboratory services. Key responsibilities include:
- Maintaining a Clean and Safe Work Environment
Our Phlebotomist is responsible for maintaining a clean and safe phlebotomy area, monitoring inventory levels, restocking supplies as needed, and ordering additional supplies when necessary.
- Following Proper Safety Protocols
The Phlebotomist must follow proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and safety protocols at all times to ensure a safe working environment.
- Monitoring Patient Registration and Check-in Status
Our Phlebotomist is responsible for monitoring the lab patient registration and check-in status, periodically checking the lobby, and interacting with patients to ensure that all lab patients are registered and accounted for.
- Preparing for Patient Procedures
The Phlebotomist retrieves and reviews relevant paperwork, supplies, and orders related to patient appointments prior to escorting them to the phlebotomy area.
- Providing Excellent Patient Care
Our Phlebotomist greets patients with a smile, escorts them to the phlebotomy area, verifies patient identification and date of birth, explains procedures, and answers patient questions in a professional and patient manner.
- Collecting Specimens
The Phlebotomist collects specimens according to established policies and procedures, verifies specimen integrity, and exhibits skill in phlebotomy procedures to minimize patient discomfort and recollections.
- Processing Specimens
Our Phlebotomist processes specimens for in-house and send-out testing, accurately documents collection information into the computer system, and processes electronic and/or manual orders for send-out testing.
- Following Laboratory Policies and Procedures
The Phlebotomist must follow all laboratory policies, procedures, and regulations at all times.
- Collaborating with Colleagues
Our Phlebotomist is expected to readily offer to perform duties in other areas of the lab once assigned work is completed and assists colleagues without prompting.
