Job Summary

As a Staff Nurse - RN with South Central Health System, you will provide high-quality patient care that is dependent on physician orders or through independent nursing interventions based on professional judgment in response to individualized patient needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Adhere to the scope of RN practice as outlined by the MS Board of Nursing, regulatory standards, and hospital policy.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge and pursue professional growth opportunities.
  • Supervise and support LPN, Nursing Assistant, Nurse Tech, Behavioral Health Techs, and students.
  • Serve as a positive role model and preceptor for new staff and students.
  • Ensure the confidentiality and security of protected health information.
  • Collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary teams to address patient needs.
  • Seek help or guidance from supervisors or other resource people when needed.
  • Adapt to change and prioritize work effectively.
  • Demonstrate reliable attendance, report on time, and be ready to work at the beginning of the shift.
  • Complete assigned duties, accept assignments willingly, and assist others to complete work on time.
  • Support the unit's staffing needs by occasionally adjusting the work schedule, staying late, or working extra.
  • Establish a safe, compassionate, and caring environment for patients and their families.
  • Establish a safe and supportive work environment that promotes teamwork.
Core Duties
  • Coordinate patient care by scheduling, consulting, and organizing patient activities.
  • Perform admission and ongoing patient assessments and respond appropriately to findings.
  • Establish a Plan of Care for each patient to address acute physical, emotional, and spiritual needs.
  • Promote patient engagement by considering specific needs, values, and preferences.
  • Establish care goals, teach patients/families about health conditions, medications, and self-care skills.
  • Develop a discharge plan individualized for patient/family needs that prevents hospital readmissions.
  • Accurately and completely document assessments and nursing care in the patient's medical record.
  • Promote continuity of care by reporting activities, incidents, and changing patient needs to the next caregiver.
  • Demonstrate infection prevention behaviors, consistent hand washing, and use of appropriate PPEs.
  • Adhere to safe medication administration while preparing, administering, documenting, and monitoring medications.
  • Recognize safety risks and implement prevention plans for falls, skin breakdown, and injury.
  • Contribute to the department's performance improvement activities.
  • Demonstrate competency in the performance of clinical skills.
