Position Overview

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking qualified candidates for the role of Senior Legal Counsel II within the Office of Chief Staff Attorney. Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee a full caseload of appeals while managing the performance and productivity of a designated team of legal professionals.
  • Collaborate closely with the Chief Staff Attorney to allocate cases effectively and ensure timely processing.
  • Conduct thorough legal research and analysis for each assigned case, providing recommendations for case disposition.
  • Review legal filings to confirm adherence to procedural regulations and statutory requirements.
  • Draft detailed memoranda and undertake specialized research and writing projects as requested by the Judges or Chief Staff Attorney.
  • Support Court-related activities that facilitate the administration of justice.

Minimum Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess a strong interest in a long-term career opportunity, be a member of the Virginia State Bar or eligible for admission, and have substantial litigation experience or prior exposure to appellate court processes. A solid understanding of appellate court rules and trial-level procedures is essential. Candidates should demonstrate exceptional analytical abilities, a capacity to synthesize large volumes of information, and outstanding written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency in computer-based case management, legal research, and word processing systems is also required.

A minimum of five years of relevant professional experience is necessary for this position, with prior supervisory experience being highly desirable.
