Job Responsibilities

This attorney will act as legal advisor and provide representation to the Virginia Division of Child Support Enforcement in matters before local courts.

Key duties include:

  • Representing the Division in its mission to establish paternity and enforce support obligations.
  • Litigating cases in both state and federal courts.
  • Providing legal counsel, services, and training to the Division on case management and procedural guidance.
  • Participating in committees and workgroups as needed.
  • Fostering positive relationships with the courts and maintaining open communication.
  • Building and nurturing a strong attorney-client relationship with the Division.
  • Performing administrative tasks and supervising legal administrative staff as assigned.
  • Attending relevant conferences, seminars, and continuing legal education.
  • Preparing and delivering training and informational sessions.
  • Completing special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Strong litigation, organizational, research, writing, and interpersonal skills are essential.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and work independently, as well as collaboratively.
  • Significant litigation experience and capacity to prioritize a large caseload are preferred.
  • Willingness to travel is required.
  • Must be licensed to practice law in Virginia.

Additional Considerations

Experience in representing governmental entities is preferred but not mandatory.
