Position Overview
This role involves representing the Commonwealth of Virginia in the pursuit of justice for individuals claiming actual innocence. The selected attorney will engage in comprehensive legal research and prepare detailed briefs for submission to the Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court of Virginia.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct oral arguments and evidentiary hearings.
- Support ongoing criminal investigations and prosecutions as required.
- Collaborate closely with the Section Chief for Special Investigations and Actual Innocence.
- Travel may be necessary for case-related duties.
Essential Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A proven track record of litigation in various courts, with a focus on criminal law.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, demonstrated through prior work samples and references.
- A minimum of four (4) years of experience in criminal law, specifically in trial or appellate settings.
- Active membership in the Virginia Bar.
