Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced Senior Communications Director to spearhead our Strategic Communications practice. This newly established role will focus on leading project teams and ensuring measurable outcomes for our clients in the Health & Wellness, Energy & Utilities, and Public Affairs sectors. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in strategic communications, particularly within public affairs.

The Senior Director will collaborate closely with project and creative teams to design and implement comprehensive communication strategies. These strategies will encompass content creation, media relations, social media engagement, stakeholder outreach, and public education campaigns tailored for diverse audiences.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver strategic counsel and innovative ideas while overseeing projects and campaigns.
  • Design and execute comprehensive communication plans that involve strategic planning and public engagement.
  • Develop and manage a robust public engagement strategy to connect with various stakeholders.
  • Create original and captivating content for both digital and print platforms.
  • Lead promotional initiatives for clients, including the creation and distribution of publications, reports, website content, and social media materials.
  • Identify suitable external platforms to share client narratives and support spokesperson engagements.
  • Oversee and mentor a team of communication and creative professionals.
  • Manage project scope, including cost proposals and task orders.
  • Ensure project compliance and budget adherence.
  • Communicate effectively with clients and provide strategic guidance.
  • Coordinate and manage in-person client events.

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of professional experience in communications, particularly in public affairs.
  • Strong understanding of public affairs policy and stakeholder dynamics.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking.
  • Experience in managing project teams and junior staff.
  • Ability to work independently on high-profile projects.
  • Preferred experience in statewide communications campaigns.
  • Bachelor's degree in public policy, communications, political science, or a related field.
  • Must reside in Illinois and have reliable transportation.
  • Willingness to work a hybrid schedule, including onsite collaboration.
